Taloca do Grilo is more than just a rural guest house; it is a piece of our family history that we are now delighted to share with you. Nestled in the peaceful village of Grilo, Baião, this traditional stone house has belonged to our family for generations. This is where my grandmother and my father were born, and it was within these walls and ancient stone terraces (socalcos) that we learned to cherish the value of silence and Northern Portuguese traditions.
But what exactly is a "Taloca"?
In the local dialect of Baião, "Taloca" is a term of endearment for a cricket’s burrow (the toca do grilo). Since our home breathes the serenity of this tiny village of fewer than 500 inhabitants, and is situated precisely in the parish of Grilo, the name felt like destiny. Taloca do Grilo is your sanctuary — the perfect hideaway in the Douro, where time simply slows down.
